When it rains
The gorge gets socked in. It happens. Here is what the day looks like when it does.
Linville Caverns
About eight minutes from the cabin and fifty-two degrees inside no matter what the sky is doing. Tours are guided, and the schedule moves around: often closed Tuesday and Wednesday, weekends only through much of winter, and hours change by season. After heavy rain it drips in there. Call (828) 756-4171 the morning you go.
Back at the cabin
Great room, leather sofas, gas fireplace, board games. Full kitchen, and you will cook more than you planned to. The covered porch is the place to stand and watch it come down.
One thing to skip
The gorge gravel roads in a downpour. Not worth it.
